Infertility

About 85% of couples conceive naturally after one year of unprotected sexual intercourse, so if you have been trying for a year and have not conceived yet, you should visit your health care provider.

Since fertility testing can be a lengthy process and female fertility decreases with age, women who are over 35 and concerned about their fertility are encouraged to see their doctor as soon as possible.

Some causes of female infertility include problems with ovulation, egg transport, fertilization and implantation, and endometriosis. In men, the causes include sperm disorders, genetic disorders, alcohol and drug misuse, testicular injury, side effects of illness, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you’re having difficulty conceiving, both you and your partner should see a physician. In fact you may want to go together.

The physicians on staff at GYN OB Associates are knowledgeable, compassionate, and have special training in infertility. They can help to diagnose the problem and/or problems and advise you on the many treatment options available. They may also refer you to Women & Infants Hospital Consult Services conveniently located within our facility at New Boston Road Medical Center.
