Pelvic Pain

Pelvic pain is very common and may have many causes.

For example, pelvic pain can be an indication that there is a problem with one of the organs in your pelvic area, such as the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, cervix, or vagina. It could also be a symptom of infection, or a problem with the urinary tract, lower intestines, rectum, muscle, or bone.

Pelvic pain typically occurs in the lower abdomen area and may be steady, or it may come in waves. If the pain is severe, it can get in the way of your daily activities. Whether it comes and goes or is constant, is sharp or dull, is in one place or a broad area, you should contact your health care provider promptly. He or she can help you to determine the cause of your pain and the most effective treatment.

Since there are so many potential causes of pelvic pain, you may need to undergo a series of medical tests to isolate the source. Treatment, of course, depends on the cause of the pain, as well as the intensity and frequency.
