Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs)

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common. In fact, according to the Mayo Clinic, half of all women will develop a UTI during their lifetimes, and many will experience more than one.

UTIs often occur when bacteria enter the urinary tract, which consists of the kidneys, the bladder, and the ureters and urethra (the tubes that carry urine). Although any part of your urinary tract can become infected, bladder and urethra infections are the most common and can be easily treated. You may have a UTI if you notice:

  • Pain or burning when urinating
  • Fever, tiredness, or shakiness
  • An urge to use the bathroom often
  • Pressure in your lower belly
  • Urine that smells bad or looks cloudy or reddish

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, call one of the providers at GYN OB Associates. He or she can determine if you have a UTI by testing a sample of your urine. If you test positive, your doctor can prescribe medications to treat the infection and relieve your symptoms.
